Our Bios
Bob MacArthur
Bob is a seasoned leader who brings a variety of experiences to his clients. He served 19 years as President and CEO of the American Youth Foundation, a national nonprofit organization with headquarters in St. Louis. An innovative programmer and manager, Bob led AYF through a period of significant growth and development of year round programs at sites in Missouri, Michigan, New Hampshire and California.
His experiences as chief executive grounded him in all aspects of nonprofit leadership and management, including program design and delivery, board relations, fund development, alumni and external relations, human resources and risk management. He led AYF through two capital campaigns that raised over $30M to renovate and construct facilities at three sites owned by AYF and to endow scholarships and ongoing maintenance.
For 12 years prior to AYF Bob directed the Dartmouth Outward Bound Center, integrating the national character development program within the academic and residential life of the university. He also served an interim year as College Chaplain and Dean of the Tucker Foundation, coordinating experiential programs to foster the moral and spiritual growth of Dartmouth students.
An effective collaborator, Bob has worked with leaders of business, education, government, community-based organizations, corporate foundations and private philanthropies. An advocate of national and comunity service programs, he led a regional public-private collaborative effort to bring an 85 member AmeriCorps program to the community education centers of the city of St. Louis public schools.
Bob is a graduate of Dartmouth College and Berkeley Divinity School at Yale and is a member of the consultants network of the New Hampshire Center for Nonprofits.
Peggy MacArthur
Owner of Birch Corner Associates, Peggy brings a breadth of personal and professional accomplishments to her role as coach. She understands firsthand the demands and rewards of striving for peak performance and finding satisfaction and joy in living.
Peggy's professional experiences span four careers. A nationally ranked competitive figure skater, she spent several years training and coaching aspiring skaters. Later she served as human resource manager at Energizer's global headquarters in St. Louis. Working full time at Energizer, she completed her MSW degree and fufilled the requirements to become a licensed clinical social worker in both Missouri and New Hampshire. Her third career was that of therapist serving individuals, children and families.
Since Birch Corner Associate's founding in 2004, Peggy has applied life lessons learned as a parent and grandparent with what she has discovered in her professional pursuits. As a coach she helps individuals navigate major life transitions. She believes that individuals, groups and organizations have the wisdom within to meet their challenges and realize their potential. She understands that her role is to help clients tap into that wisdom to discover their own answers.
In addition to working with her own clients, Peggy mentors the team of coaches who support the students enrolled in the Touched By A Horse coaching certification programs pioneered by Melisa Pearce.
Peggy has a BA from Drew University and a MSW from the George Warren Brown School of Social Work at Washington University. In addition to her training and practice as a systems therapist, she trained with Alan Seale, founder of The Center for Transformational Presence, earning her credential as a Certified Transformational Presence Coach. She is also a Reiki Master Teacher of the Usui System of Reiki Healing.
