Case Studies - EXECUTIVE COACHING
Facilitation: The Head and Board Chair of an independent school retained Birch Corner Associates (BCA) to help plan and facilitate a retreat for the board, faculty and administration to prioritize needs for a capital campaign. They also wanted to create buy-in on the part of stakeholders. As a result, the group reached agreement in identifying the top five needs. Not long afterward, inspired in part by the interaction at the retreat, one board member came forward with the lead gift for the campaign.
Alignment for Growth: The owner of a small public relations company retained BCA to help her move into her next stage of development. She knew she was relying too heavily on one large client, and her employees were not delivering the quality of service she expected. Using interviews to assess internal strengths and challenges, we helped the firm refine its vision, refocus on their ideal client and realign talent to deliver the desired quality of service. As a result, she was able to serve her existing clients better, diversify her client base and expand her business into new markets.
Strategic planning: An international trade association retained BCA to help it create its first strategic plan. The process involved taking the pulse of its 1500 members through an on-line survey and interviewing key constituents, facilitating several planning retreats with the board and coaching the board chair and executive director. The process identified five core strategies critical to the association's future and put in place goals, objectives and action steps for implementing the core strategies. The final product included annual operating plans and a three-year financial projection that will enable the association to build its reserve fund.
Case Studies - LIFE COACHING
Life - Work Transition: A physician who left full time practice to be home to support her family and manage the household sought coaching to clarify options for her future as she prepared to return to the workplace. Choosing not to resume her former practice, she decided instead to use her medical training to serve a larger population through policy formation. As a result, she now works for her state's health department, compiling and disseminating research, advocating for policy changes and training others to improve health care delivery.
Spiritual Renewal: Having devoted her life to caring for others, a woman sought coaching to discern her life purpose, reclaim her personal power and take action to realize her dreams. Through her work with BCA she defined her soul mission, created a peaceful home environment in which her spirit thrives, renewed her passion for life and began writing her autobiography.
Work - Life Balance: The founding partner in a small company doing highly demanding work sought coaching to reestablish a lost balance between work and personal life. Accustomed to being in control, his reluctance to give up key roles in the company kept him from concentrating on his strengths in sales and program delivery, a situation that was detrimental both to the business and goals he had in his personal life. As a result of coaching, he brought in a senior manager to coordinate operations for the firm, delegated two key functions he had always managed and began traveling more, cultivating a long deferred passion for service in third world countries.
