Coaching leaders, nonprofit boards and individuals to align purpose, passion and performance
WHAT OUR CLIENTS SAY ABOUT
Last year at this time, it felt like we were driving on a snowy road with worn tires; lots of spinning and wasted time. You helped me, and us, mount new tires on this well-traveled vehicle. With your guidance, we wrote up performance plans, clarified deliverables, defined organizational values, re-aligned roles, and came to a better understanding of each other's strengths and needs.
This organization's profound change over the last twelve months is attributable to your guidance. You didn't offer pat advice, or create some illusion of how things should work. Right from the beginning, you invested yourself and took the time to learn the culture of the organization. You challenged my thinking, tested my assumptions, asked me to think deeply, and along the way, buoyed my desire for and understanding of what it means to be an effective manager and leader. What an incredible gift you gave me and all of us...
You are no mere tire mechanic, Bob. You are the GPS that takes people where they want to go. I am grateful both personally and professionally, and on behalf of the entire organization, thank you.
Roger Larochelle, Executive Director, Squam Lakes Conservation Society, Holderness, New Hampshire.
Bob is an extraordinary coach. His ability to help me sift through a myriad of topics to focus on core and sustainable personal and professional objectives has been tremendously valuable.
He is an inspired and engaging personality who can cut to the heart of matters of material, spiritual and emotional significance. He is direct and compassionate and had little tolerance for excuses and denial. Exactly what anyone who is serious about personal development needs.
I am grateful for Bob and the very powerful work he leads.

I first approached Bob because I was feeling overwhelmed by my responsibilities as a faculty member and chair of a newly independent academic department. I was losing focus on my priorities and finding it difficult to manage my time effectively. These issues were affecting my health and increasing levels of stress...
At the outset of our coaching relationship, Bob was very clear that we define expectations, ground rules, goals and indicators of success...I also took a self-management profile to identify strengths, weaknesses and preferences in my leadership style...Bob and I talked on the phone at least once a week and he was available 24/7 for brainstorming last minute questions before a meeting with other faculty or the dean. I was able to conduct department meetings with a lot more clarity as a result of the coaching sessions with Bob. And most importantly I started sleeping better and felt that I had an ally to discuss problems with rather than feeling overwhelmed and isolated with these challenging situations.
At the end of the academic year, I had successfully negotiated several challenges including the hiring of a new faculty member, gaining approval for our new curriculum from the Academic Priorities Committee, managing staff and students, and keeping my research program on task. In addition, the department, dean, and college president supported and approved my promotion to full professor. I am now on sabbatical and looking back to the last academic year. I can't imagine coping with all of those challenges without Bob's help. In short, Bob was an exceptional coach, mentor and friend.

For seven months Bob assisted me to focus on specific areas of my work performance that had eroded badly. One of the best parts of working with Bob was his meeting me exactly where I needed him to be. I wanted straight forward observations and recommendations. Bob delivered. I was provided usable tools and suggestions that made a quick impact on my performance. He really helped me get back to being the person I was, so that today even though there are significant problems at work I am not falling into the bad pattern I had in the past. Bob's assistance has been extremely valuable.
In addition, Bob assisted me in establishing a frame work for looking at future work opportunities. He helped me to recognize my values and apply them to work I would be happy doing.

I simply wanted to let you know that I am using a "leadership / executive coach" this year and he has been enormously helpful to me to organize my time and priorities, clarify and stay focused on issues of high importance. The added value is that he helps me with emotional issues and personal matters that can interfere with decision making and more importantly sense of balance and purpose.
He understands our jobs extremely well, is totally objective...He has been a huge asset to me personally and professionally. My board loves the idea, has endorsed my using him again and does not contact him unless he and I agree...He is 100% reliable and rock solid confidential. I am so comfortable with him (and with myself...) that the faculty and administration know I am working with him.I think it models well, frankly.

Having Bob MacArthur as my coach in the Touched By a Horse ® Certification Program was a blessing and a gift. His no-nonsense coaching style guided me towards accessing the answers I had within myself which helped me move forward in the program and in my life. Bob's extraordinary listening skills, non-judgmental questions and compassion are part of what makes him an excellent coach. I would highly recommend Bob MacArthur as a coach for those ready to break down limiting beliefs and soar into their career with horses.

Bob MacArthur provided me with a safe environment for examining my work habits, learning style and personal motivations…With an artful blend of challenge and support, Bob allowed me to clearly focus on first identifying and then shifting behaviors that support the changes I wanted to make. While my work is never done, his probing questions and reframing have greatly assisted me in sorting through many of my unconscious habits that limit my effectiveness as a professional. Bob has helped me dedicate the time I need to think and work more effectively.

I have had the pleasure of using Bob MacArthur's services as an executive coach for two years. I can highly recommend his professional responsiveness and individual attention...Bob operated as a sounding board for matters of concern as I took on a new leadership position at the school...Bob has a great ear - he listens carefully. He has a knack for digesting ramblings of the mind to core or essential ideas or actions. He always gave good advice in a kind and thoughtful fashion. He was always available and timely in his communication, and made himself available to me at any time, should the need arise.
David J. Weidman, Academic Dean, Kimball Union Academy, Meriden, New Hampshire
Bob is a terffic coach who has a wonderful ability to really listen and challenge while gently guiding you in being completely authentic. My introspective abilities and assessments of my priorities, interests and career path have been augmented through knowing Bob. My time with him was always thought provoking and fun!
I first met Bob at a coach training...I've since had the opportunity to engage him as MY coach. Yes, coaches have coaches too! I've found that everything I suspected about his coaching is true: he is able to perceive the deeper issues, ask the hard questions in a very gentle and supportive way, and hold me accountable to goals that I set for myself. He also openly shares intuitive hits and insights about what he's hearing in what I'm saying and is willing to be a cheerleader when that's what I need...He also can and will when needed, get in my face to confront me with something that doesn't seem congruent when comparing my words with my actions. I count him as one of my most treasured advisors and friends...He is truly gifted as a coach.

Bob MacArthur has the unique ability to listen compassionately while simultaneously challenging me to go beyond my assumptions. An unwavering acceptance of people for who they are lies at the heart of Bob’s gentle yet effective manner in probing the difficult issues that arise as I navigate the process of identifying my strengths and direction. There is no discernable judgment, yet there are helpful insights and suggestions. Coaching is for Bob a distillation of the many interests and talents that he has acquired and cultivated in his distinguished career.
